Jimmy Nardello Italian Pepper Plant Start

Giuseppe and Angella Nardello, residents of the village of Ruoti in Southern Italy, annually cultivated this distinct Italian pepper. In 1887, they embarked on a journey to the U.S. seeking a new life. Upon their arrival, they established their home in Naugatuck, Connecticut, where they continued their gardening traditions, nurturing the same pepper variety that eventually became known as the Jimmy pepper, named after their fourth son.

Characterized by its long and thin-skinned profile, this frying pepper possesses an exceptional ability to dry easily and boasts a remarkably rich flavor. Fruits ripen to a vibrant deep red hue, this pepper is highly prolific and thrives in diverse climates. A 0 on the Scoville heat scale.

All plant starts are grown in OASIS® 1.5″ x 1.5″ grow cubes until they reach approximately 4″ to 6″ in height. Plants are only stocked and made available for shipping once both the plant and root system are strong enough to withstand transit.

Eggplants – Peppers and eggplants demand similar growing conditions making them quite a strong pairing

Beans, peas – Peppers are heavy feeders and pairing with legume varieties that enrich the soil will do them well

Lettuce, salad mix – These low-to-the-ground varieties both maximize garden space and are light feeders, complimenting both pepper’s size and tendency to pull a lot of nutrients from the soil

Marigolds – a repellent for some of the pests that bother peppers
