Shishito Pepper Plant Start

A Japanese heirloom producing iconic 3 inch long slightly wrinkled green fruits. Shishitos grew in popularity over the past couple years by consumers who cook the peppers just to a blister then enjoy. Although shishitos tend to be mild, sweet, and flavorful, another unique trait is that roughly one in 10 peppers will be hot. Shishitos, for the most part, have a Scoville unit range of 50-200, although the few hot ones can reach as high as 1000, still rather mild even compared to the common jalapeno.

All plant starts are grown in OASIS® 1.5″ x 1.5″ grow cubes until they reach approximately 4″ to 6″ in height. Plants are only stocked and made available for shipping once both the plant and root system are strong enough to withstand transit.

Eggplants – Peppers and eggplants demand similar growing conditions making them quite a strong pairing

Beans, peas – Peppers are heavy feeders and pairing with legume varieties that enrich the soil will do them well

Lettuce, salad mix – These low-to-the-ground varieties both maximize garden space and are light feeders, complimenting both pepper’s size and tendency to pull a lot of nutrients from the soil

Marigolds – a repellent for some of the pests that bother peppers
